Every year in May, the already legendary Golf Trophy takes place at the 18-hole golf course in Mittersill. In cooperation with Gandler Risk Management and the Golf Club National Park Hohe Tauern, the exclusive Schloss Mittersill offers a special setting for the events surrounding the golf tournament in Mittersill.

You can see the Golfclub National Park Hohe Tauern, only a few minutes’ drive away, from the castle terraces. Framed by the impressive mountain world of the Hohe Tauern’s snow-capped peaks, the flat golf course shines in luscious green between the national park capital of Mittersill and the neighboring village. Surrounded by traditional haystacks and ponds and accompanied by the gentle babble of a stream, the sport of golf becomes a true nature experience.

Schloss Mittersill Castle and golf – team players since time immemorial

Did you know that the first idea for a golf course in the Mittersill national park region has its origins back in the 1930s? The owner of the castle at that time, Baron Hubert von Pantz, was known for his legendary “Sport & Shooting Club Schloss Mittersill.” Sports such as golf and clay pigeon shooting were the favorite pastimes of the members of this exclusive sports club, and a small golf course was even installed on the castle grounds. Famous personalities such as Bob Hope and Bing Crosby were passionate golfers and were among the guests at Schloss Mittersill on several occasions. Again and again, private golf tournaments were held in small groups. In the 1950s, the idea arose to build a golf course near Schloss Mittersill in cooperation with Kitzbühel that would be suitable for the aristocracy. The project was supported by Club members Edward, Duke of Windsor (the future King of England), Prince Ferdinand of Liechtenstein, and many other prominent personalities. However, finding a suitable site proved to be very difficult and the vision of building a golf course was abandoned again.

However, 30 years later, tourism experts and golf enthusiasts from Mittersill revived the idea with great enthusiasm. After years of negotiations with the authorities, construction work could finally begin. In May 1999, the first round of golf in Mittersill was played at the Golf Club National Park Hohe Tauern.
