Pure snowy fun in the castle winter

Do you feel like tobogganing in Mittersill?

As you know, the Pinzgau region feels like paradise. No other region has a more beautiful and diverse change of seasons as Salzburg. The winter months from January to April, in all their snowy glory, are always at their best. But we don’t always enjoy as much white gold as this January. This winter has been extraordinary. This winter has brought back childhood memories, memories of skiing, building snowpeople, going tobogganing in Mittersill. This winter gets the motor running for a proper vacation – in snow, obviously! There’s no better moment than when opening the curtains in the morning, the freshly snow-covered scenery reflecting in the windowpane, and both the sun and the glistening layer of snow shine at their brightest. This moment of peace and this sublimity that fills the instant are something truly special.

Hit the toboggan, get set, go!

Wahoo on the “longest illuminated toboggan run in the world”

But what’s the most fun place to go tobogganing around Mittersill? The Wildkogel Arena family region, about a 15-minute-drive away, hosts probably the best-known run; the multi-award winning “longest illuminated toboggan run in the world” known far beyond the Austrian border. Travelling uphill is easy with the gondola. And the toboggan run is 14 km long! This means pure tobogganing fun until the skids start burning. Warm up in the highest-altitude pizzeria of the Alps right at the mountain stations or at the popular “Zwischenzeit” alpine rest stop after about 7 km of downhill sliding. And if you happen to get lost in all the hut fun, not to worry: The entire route is illuminated until 10 pm. If you prefer things a bit more easy-going, the natural toboggan run in the neighboring village of Hollersbach is the place to be. A light hike takes you to the Berghof mountain inn for a 2.5 km run toward the valley.

As your gaze falls on the snow-covered mountain ranges of the Hohe Tauern, breath in the special atmosphere, and leave the daily worries behind.
