Softly treading through winter wonderland

Whether you prefer ski touring, wildlife watching, igloo building, or snowshoeing in Mittersill-- every year the rangers of the Hohe Tauern National Park and local professionals will come up with interesting and exciting adventures for you. Explore the quiet and untouched beauty of nature away from the busy slopes with us. Tell us your preferences--and we will find winter hikes customized for you.

Wonderful Winter Hikes

Nestled in the hiker’s and nature paradise of the Hohe Tauern National Park and the Kitzbühel Alps, our castle is the ideal starting point for wonderful hikes and tours--both in the winter and in the summer.

The diverse opportunities you find in the Hohe Tauern National Park are unmatched. Its many pastures, gentle slate mountains of the Kitzbühel Alps, and rugged 3,000m-peaks at the gateway to the glaciers of the Hohe Tauern invite you to experience hiking through winter wonderland in Mittersill. Hikers will appreciate our region for its varied, stunning, and snow-covered mountain landscape.

Come away from the hustle and bustle and enjoy our winter landscape. Professional guides will take you to the most beautiful spots in the region! We particularly recommend snowshoeing through Mittersill and its surroundings, where you will truly be able to appreciate a magical winter landscape. Savour the accompanying silence, the snow-covered scenery, and the dance of snowflakes on your tour. Some of the paths we recommend include re-discovering the Krimml waterfalls in completely new way, daring to observe wild animal, and venturing to high alpine areas - these experiences will surpass your expectations and wintery dreams.

Our tip: a snowshoe hike around Hochmoor at Pass Thurn will take you through a wonderful, snow-covered landscape. If you like being physically active, you will be excited to tackle the approx. 10 km long track above the forest path and moor areas.

Hochmoor Track

Romantic winter hikes through Hochmoor Wasenmoos will provide you with breathtaking panoramic views of the Hohe Tauern National Park region with its towering 3,000 meter mountains. Those who are physically able can happily take on the approximately 10 km long Hochmoor loop, which leads you on a forest road to old moor areas.

Hollersbachtal Valley

In winter, the valley Hollersbachtal shows its particularly attractive side. Snowy meadows and frozen streams will be your silent companions on the circular hike through Hollersbach. With a little luck and good eyes you might even catch a glimpse of animal tracks in the winter flora.
